Did you know there have been more spells created and written for love and passion than for prosperity or health? That says something revealing about humanity. Our need to be loved is directly tied to our happiness and survival. Throughout millenia people have sought, through magickal means and modern science, a way to stimulate desire, passion, and love.
Some of the earliest known love spells can be traced to ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and China. Today, we have Viagra and other ‘potions’ to enhance sexual desire, but love—true love—remains elusive. Not everything can be bottled, and the results may vary.
Whether you try candle magick, an amulet, charm, or a simple chant of intent, spellwork—like love—doesn’t come easy. But if your aim is true, your dedication real, and your love sincere, then the universe may bless you.
A few notes about love spells and spells in general...
Lady Luna rules the night, and since most spells are worked in the evening hours, knowing the cycles of the moon, is important.
new moon: beginning new projects, starting a spell
waxing to full moon: spells for growth, prosperity
waning to dark moon: banishing, endings
waxing to full moon: spells for growth, prosperity
waning to dark moon: banishing, endings
Fridays, especially those under a new moon, are considered the most auspicious time to cast a love spell. Freya, the Northern Lady of Love, as well as Aphrodite and Oshun, claim Friday as their day to shine their light and help those seeking love.
Infuse your spells with energy! Use colors, herbs, symbols, & stones to enhance your spellcraft. Each object can imbue a quality to the spell that can aid in it's working.
The Color of Love
Red and pink are universal for love and passion. But in some magickal traditions orange and yellow are the colors of passionate love.
The Number of Love
There is a rhyme I recall from when I was a child, that says: From two to eight, turn love to hate. From eight to two, love is renewed. This would seem to indicate that numerology plays a part in some love spells. Two the number of lovers and eight, the number of infinity, and of the fine balance between opposites, such as love and hate.
Pick a Posey
Roses are considered the floral symbol of love, but did you know that tea roses are the symbol of love eternal? Legend says that where Tristan and Isolde were buried side by side, a blush of tea roses grew from the earth, and each year bloomed anew.
Rosemary is an herb often associated with love spells. In medieval England, charms using rosemary and stands of the beloved one’s hair were woven together and worn close to the heart.
Passionate Amber
Did you know that amber, not diamonds are the stones of love? That’s right. In Norse mythology, the goddess Freya wept bitter tears when her husband left her, and those tears formed into amber. It is said Freya will bless your love spell if you include her tears as part of your spellcraft.
Another legend tells of a mermaid princess named Juraste. Betrothed to the King of the Seas, she fell in love with a mortal fisherman. She hid her lover in a palace made of purest amber. But when her father realized what she had done, he called upon the elements of air and water to charge the skies with power and cast hurricanes and powerful thunderbolts of lightning to destroy the amber palace. To save their love so they could reunite in the afterworld, she infused the amber with their essence, instilling both love and passion into the stone. The bits of amber that washed ashore were said to be lucky for those wishing to reunite with their lost loves.
Romany wise in the arts of love and magick claim amber as the most powerful of love-drawing stones and include it in many of their love charms.
Faery Knots of Love
Faeries sometimes tie knots in the boughs of willow trees. If you should ever see such a knot, preserve it, for it contains powerful love magick. But beware, for whatsoever the fair folk put together, never shall come asunder!
A Simple Love Spell You Can Do At Home
We only get as much as we give or put into our spellcraft, so intent, will, and purpose are key. But you don’t have to be a witch to create a little spellbinding passion.

Love Apple Spell
Items:
1 small apple
1 red candle
1-2 pinches of sea salt
paring knife
On the night of a new moon, carefully carve your name into the wax of the candle. Make sure the name is just deep enough to read. Using the same knife, peel the apple starting at the top and working toward the base. Try to make the peel a single, continuous cut. Once done, wrap the peel around the base of the candle (please make sure the candle is properly seated in a fire safe candle holder or container before lighting).
Light the candle and say the following:
Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, I seek help from above. Send my true love to me, in passionate devotion for eternity.
Cut the apple in half, width's direction, so that it exposes the hidden, seed-laden pentacles within. Sprinkle sea salt on the two halves of the apple, and say:
Moon and stars appear, light to guide him near, with harm to none, my spell is done. So be it, and so it is!
Now taste of nature's bounty and boundless love by eating the two halves of the apple.
Carefully snuff out candle once it has burned within an inch of the top portion of the apple peel. Discard candle once you make sure it is completely cold. Bury the apple seeds, core and peel, in your backyard, thus returning it to nature to fulfill the promise of love renewed.
If you have done this right, your true love should come into your life before the next new moon. If he is already in your life, then he will become more attentive to you and your desires during this time period. :)
Cassandra’s Favorite Love Charm
Few men can resist the power and allure of a mermaid, but with a few simple items you can create a love charm to draw the man of your dreams, and all without the mess of growing a tail!
Take a small piece of red felt, fold it in half and sew it on two sides forming a small pocket with a flap. Place one sprig of dried rosemary and a pinch of agar-agar inside. Add two tiny seashells, a freshwater or natural pearl, a chip of amber, and a small silver mermaid or dolphin charm. Sew the pouch closed. Place charm inside a pocket or near your heart and on a new moon, or a full moon, say the following (with sincerity and pure intent):
Queen of glory, queen of grace, filled with beauty, form, and face, I call Amphitrite to hear my plea, send my true love to find me.. So I will, and so it be! This spell be done with harm to none! So mote it be!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful, loving, and passionate Valentine’s Day!
