I'm going to share a BIG secret that most writers don't talk about. How vitally important it is to arrange your working space so your back is to the wall.
Don't know why? Well, how about I paint a picture for you. I'm typing away, and the characters are getting into it, pretty hot and heavy. I'm trying to make sure I'm using great descriptors to let the readers know what's going on in that sweaty, steamy bedroom scene. I'm totally concentrating, into my work. I'm seeing it, picturing it and...
"Mom, do we have anymore pretzels? Who's that picture of? Why doesn't he have a shirt on?"
How fast can you shut down a computer screen? (Inspiration pictures are a necessity you know...)
Yes, writing erotic romance with children in the house is a challenge. Some writers deal with it by writing early in the morning, some by waiting until the kids are off to school. I'm at home 24/7 with mine, so I've slowly taught them NOT to sneak up on Mom and peer over my shoulder.

Now the other side of the children question. How do you write an erotic romance with a heroine who has little ones, and still make it sexy? How and where do the hero/heroine find time to get to know each other, let alone 'do the dirty?' Well, in my latest book, Rocky Mountain Haven, there's that exact issue. The heroine is a widow with three little boys, and let's just say we ALL had to get creative. I'm very proud of the final result (hint- phone sex, sex in a swimming pool change room, sex in a remote...well you get the idea. :)

Beth Danube has escaped to a small Alberta town to make a new start for herself and her three little boys. Her emotionally abusive husband may be dead and buried, but so is her heart. What she doesn’t want is another man in her life—not now, maybe not ever. Yet when her libido reawakens after ten years of unsatisfactory sex in the missionary position, is any woman strong enough to turn down sex-in-boots, Daniel Coleman?
The middle child of the rowdy Coleman boys, Daniel’s the quiet one who has always subdued his desires and acted as peacemaker. His powerful attraction to the young widow takes him by storm, and he’s willing to pursue her until they both find satisfaction—in and out of the bedroom.
Only Beth isn’t sure she’s ready to cross the line. Becoming friends with blazing hot benefits means she’s still the one in control. Letting her heart trust again? She isn’t that brave—or foolish. Daniel is going to have to be mighty convincing to help her overcome the past.

I love your cowboy very sexy. After reading so much about Daniel and Beth I'm beginning to fill like they're family.

Viv, that's a funny post. My 9yr old daughter has a knack of stumbling into my office while I oggle some sweet man candy. Mind you, they're inspirational pictures to rev up my imagination for the story being offered. *chuckle* I just have to quickly scroll down to text, and sweetly offer "its part of a romance story". *daughter rolls eyes*
Lol at Armenia.
Yeah, I think my daughter spotted the cover for one of the menages I wrote. Humm- "It's a love triangle. Like Betty, Veronica and Archie..."
Sherry- you're getting you dose of cowboys this week, aren't you? :D
Even when they are older...like ADULTS, they still do not want to know that you KNOW all about THAT.
Funny, but true.
Preserves our Authority.
Objectivity.
And peace at Thanksgiving dinner.
How funny. My kids are all adults and they know what I write. If they come into they room and I'm writing, they cover their eyes and ask whatever question it is. LOL They are all in their own houses, so usually when they're over, I'm not in my office. I'm hanging out with them. But they still manage to sneak up on me.
My back is to the door, and there are times when I shut it and post this sign: "Please do not disturb me. I'm disturbed enough already." Seems to work pretty well around here. Hubby knows that is the Hunks-on-the-screen cue and to knock first.
Fun post and a great excerpt!
