Over at It’s Only a Matter of My Opinion, we’ve discussed various industry-related topics. From publishers refusing to pay their authors to placing the spotlight on the more reputable publishing houses we all know and love, we’re putting everything on the table.
Now, it’s time to ask readers: Do you care where your favorite authors are published? Do you even notice? Are you buying more e-books or do you still rush out to your local bookstore each week?
As a reader, do you follow authors regardless of where they’re published or do you only buy from one or two large publishers and if an author isn’t published there, chances are good you’ll never find their books? Of course that leads to another question: How often do you visit brick and mortar stores these days? If you don’t visit often, where and how do you find the books you intend to purchase and read? Do you visit social networking sites and look for excerpts?
The e-book industry is thriving. As a NOOK owner, I buy more and more e-books. In this house, print is out and "E" is in. And I never thought it would happen because I'm on one gadget or another most of the day anyway.
Now I'm curious to know about other readers and their reading habits. So how about it? Are you buying more e-books or do your still spend your book dollars on print books? Do you make direct purchases from select publishers or do you even pay attention to where your favorite authors are published? Do you follow certain authors and only discover new ones after they're introduced through an anthology? Do you hunt for book bargains and only give new authors a whirl after stumbling across a free read or discounted novella?
Come on out and let us hear from you.

For myself, I am buying more e-books than print but come holiday season I am buying a ton of prints due to gift cards. :) It all depends on how much money i have set aside for spending on books in a month or not.
I read more ebooks than print, why because i can store 1000 ebooks on my computer but if i had that many books in my house well we would have to move so the books could stay. plus most of my favorite authors have ebooks and its easy to get them
I am definietly reading more ebooks now then print. But I do buy both, it just depends on the author and if it belongs to a collection I already have. There are authors that are automatic buys for me. But I research new authors. And I try to buy on a budget because honestly I don't have as much money to spend on books as I used to.
I'm still about 50/50 in the buying/reading formats I choose. I get tired of searching for ebooks online somedays so I then go to a bookstore to get books in print. It all depends on my mood and also budget. Since I can get ebooks cheaper, that will then make me buy in digital when I have less to spend or no gift cards.
And I will follow authors anywhere. I will follow my faves to any publishers since it's the author's voice I'm drawn to, not the publisher.
I am still reading print. I do not have an ereader at this time.
I follow the authors that I love to whatever publisher is printing their books. I will say that I base buying new authors books on where other authors that I enjoy are published.
I have to admit to being a bookaholic, and reading fanatic. I have been trying a ton of new authors in the last 3 months - and have found quite a few new to add to my "must read" list.
I do have a plethora of ebooks I've bought and won, but until I get my prescription updated for my glasses/contacts, I haven't been reading them of late. My eyes suffer from screen-reading drainage, lol.
However, I will always buy print books. A) it's easier for me to have a research book in print, and B)although I love ebooks, my goal for an ebook reading device is the iPad. When I invest in something to read ebooks on besides the pc and laptop, I want something I'll truly enjoy reading it with.
I always buy romance books. Since I do not have a ereader yet but plan on buying I will still buy my paperback. I just love the way I can throw it in my purse, curl up in a chair and fols the pages back with a ereader you can't do that.
I buy way too many books. I also donate my books when I'm finished with some to the library and The Book Bug to let others read them because they can't afford them. Believe me my boyfriend hates going to the bookstore with me. LOL
I read about 50-50 ebooks and print books. I just got a Nook so I am enjoying it right now, but I find it depends on the author I am interested in reading and what I am looking for to read whether I go with a print or an ebook
I still spend most of my money on print books- but I don't have an ereader.
If I had an ereader like a Kindle I would probably buy more ebooks
I think for me it's an even split. I love the hard cover books to have from authors that I love and cannot live without. I get the ebooks to see if I would like it enough to buy in print form. I have so many books here on my shelf that I am yet to read that it's pitiful. I wish I had an ereader and if I did, I'd probably be buying more ebooks. I don't think I will ever give up my prints though. As for publishing sites, that depends on the author. If I find an author I love, it doesn't matter where they're published through because I know it's going to be good no matter what. Love your work by the way, you are just awesome!

I definitely buy more ebooks now than before. Especially since I have a kindle.
I don't go to the brick and mortar stores as often now, so, I shop around at Amazon.com or AllRomanceeBooks.com. With my favorite authors, I'll follow them to any publisher. I do have favorite epubs, but that doesn't mean those are the only ones I will buy. With new authors, yes, sometimes I find them from an anthology, other times I'll try them out because of a recommendation from someone I trust.
I buy more ebooks than paper these days, and use a first generation Sony reader. Can usually track down an ebook for less than paperback, and I love that my tbr piles are so much more manageable.
For a favorite author, I will haunt them through whichever publisher or genre they use, lol. I tend to hang with them as along as they write stories that I enjoy, with good editing.
I do have a few favorite auto-buy authors that I splurge on and buy paperbacks for my keeper shelf.

Firstly if I like an author - I will buy their books irrespective of where they are published...
I have found other good authors through this processs - so some aspect of following your fav author around can be a good thing...
My Fitzroy (my ereader) gave up the ghost about two months ago and I opted to waited until the whole ereader market settle down to either get a bargain or find a reader that does it alll, in the interim - I am visiting my library more..
I am aslo reading the 10% or paper backs and harcover books that I have not paid any attention to for years...
Thank good for the netbook - I am still getting my infusion of ebooks - but it is good to actually hold a book and close the last page with satisfied smirk..
I get most of my rec's from news letter, yahoo group, bumps by authors blog I follow promoting other authors - Some I win, some are crap - but I never regret the read...
I read old fav and new author alike, when I can find them in equal measure...
But all that said - I am defiantely an ebook girl - 90& of my existing library are ebooks .. But the 10% paper stock is about 6 books shelf deep.. So still a hell of a lot of books..
Cool post...

I look at authors first, I don't usually know about different publishers, especially online. I don't have an E-reader so if I do buy an E-book it is cumbersome to read, so I don't do that very often. I hope that will change soon!
I enjoy both print and ebooks. Lately, I find myself buying more ebooks than print. They take up less space and some of the books I like are only published in ebook format. I have found a lot of new to me authors through the free books for Kindle at Amazon.com. I have the Kindle for PC app on my desktop computer and the free books have given me a chance to see if I like an author.
If I like an author, I will search out their books and most of the time I pay more attention to the book and not where it's published.
I find books I would like to read by visiting blogs and review sites and author websites. I also love to visit online bookstores and read excerpts from books that have caught my eye.

I am starting to but more ebooks. I have the Sony but I also now have a Nook. IT is so easy to take places and if I finishone book, another is just waiting.

I buy more ebooks lately because I can stop at buying one or two. When I order print books online, I always buy at least 25.00 worth to take advantage of free shipping. During the holidays, I mostly buy print books because I give them as gifts. I do tend to buy more ebook copies for newer authors and prints for my favorite authors. I don't really pay attention to where the authors are published.

I buy both ebooks and print. It's running about even right now but I foresee more ebooks in the future. I have a Kindle and just love it. I travel a lit and it is so easy to carry a large quality of books on just one small device. I have a list of approximately 50 authors that I still buy the print copies of anything they write. I've been collecting their works and will obtain it even if I also bought the ebooks.

I am a lifelong print book person. I don't own an e-reader (just my PC)or buy e-books. However, I do have concerns about authors not being paid properly and about e-book piracy. I have a lot of respect for authors and their work. I know that many authors have full-time jobs in addition to their writing careers. Not everyone who is a published author has a high-dollar contract, so every royalty penny counts.
Keep the comments coming. I'll be back later to respond. This information is very helpful, by the way.
If you're still around, let us know where you buy your books when you're buying from 3rd party retailers.

I have three mountains of print books. But for some reason I've been hooked on the electronic variety lately. I have two ereaders, a eBookman and a Sony. Love them both. I usually get a large gift card for Christmas and that's when I stock up on my print books by my 'most' favorite authors. But usually I spend about the same amount. When I buy ebooks, I tend to buy from the same few publishers. I like to follow my list of favorite authors, but I also LOVE to find new to me authors with excerpts on groups and with scavenger hunt and blog hop contests.
I buy print from mainstream authors and ebooks for everyone else. I do have paperback versions for some of my ebooks. I do not like most of the third party retailers and buy directly from the publisher unless I can't. If I like an author I will follow them to any of their publishers.
I find I am buying alot more e-books these days even though I have not got an e-reader yet . But as I live in the middle of no-where and I don't have a bookstore conviently located I like that I can still get my e-book on release day with no problems. However I still love the feel of print so I do still buy those as well . I do like to follow my fav authors and I try to buy directly from the pubs
I buy the majority of my ebooks at Fictionwise, at Kobo (when they have ereader giveaways), MBAM, and ARE.
