My favorite shows right now are Castle, Big Bang Theory, Chuck, the Cape, Dirty Jobs, and Deadliest Catch. My favorite authors are Tess Gerritsen, Stephen King, Lori G. Armstrong, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning, Robin Schone, Lynn Johnston, Bill Amend, and Mary Burton. While some shows and atuhors are similar, there is definite genre hopping.
I have to confess, I like to write that way too. I learned when I was working on the Curses trilogy and I wanted the second story to be very like the first story, I couldn't do that. The second story wouldn't follow the first's premise no matter how hard I tried to make it. I finally had to back off and let the story go its own way.
I have to have variety in what I write. I like moving from menages to m/f from futuristics and contemporaries.
I just worked on a contemporary. Before that it was a paranormal, Be My Moon. I just started work on a dragon tale.
Can I say how much I love my job? Writing gives me the variety to keep my mind pumping full of new ideas.
