Ethics, Pirates, Lawyers, and the Golden Rule

Yes, I know. You're asking what does this title have to do with my book ACROSS A CROWDED ROOM or writing? Please read on, and you tell me. "GRIN" I wrote this book under a pseudonym. ELIZABETH MARCHAT. It's a lot sexier than mainstream, and not anything like what Eliza March writes. It's received excellent reviews, wonderful comments, and wonderful support from the readers. This action packed suspense is filled with gut-wrenching situations and heart stopping romance. Along with that, I think you'll recognize the loyalty and determination of the characters, as well as the ethics guiding the hero's and heroine's lives.
So much for the commercial . . .

With everything we see going on in the news, on TV, programs, and with the internet I thought I'd reflect on what I view as an essential moral code I find lacking  in our everyday lives. . . ETHICS.

A few years ago I was helping my son decide on a college and in the process discovered ETHICS was a prerequisite for graduation. Wow, I was surprised. Something I was raised with, something I took for granted that even young children have, was a college course . . . a requirement. Amazing!

The course had been developed by lawyers and was being taught by lawyers and had been recommended as an addition to the curriculum by the lawyers on the university advisory board. They sold the program to the university, wrote the requred books, and revised them each year, so the new students couldn't use the old books. Hmm.

On Facebook today there were comments about "hacking" accounts and posting disgusting videos out under innocent people's identities. Why? I don't get it.

We deal with internet pirates stealing music and books, and movies, among other things, identities, bank accounts and emails.

If all that isn't bad enough, now I hear there are people who are writing horrible reviews and posting them on review sites, thinking to bolster their own book sales or the book sales of a friend. It doesn't work that way.

I warn you, karma, people. Karma is hell to deal with if you've been unethical, disloyal, uncaring, unkind, hateful, thieving. The answer? Ethics, people. Kindness, people. Walk in your neighbors' shoes. Do unto others . . .  Pay it forward today. Do something nice for someone. Take a stand for right, today, in some small way. Do it again tomorrow. You'll feel fantastic just doing right, doing good.

And have an awesome week. Eliza March

Great post, ELiza. It got me thinking. If each of us would take a moment and think through all the ramifications of our actions we would see likely see ethics at work.

I was in a ranting mood when I wrote this. Never the less a smile is contagious, moods are too. Make sure good deads go viral!

Thank you for the reminder. It is easy to forget to be nice to others. After my snarling snapping day yesterday I deserve a karmic kick in the butt. I'm on the lookout for the karma retribution bus! Today, I shall begin making amends.

I love your stories and your blog.

Thanks, Katie! Sorry you had a rough day. Hope retribution doesn't find you, hide behind a few good deeds. LOL
I guess my new answer to being frustrated is blogging about it. I think I'll add a rants page to my blog, subscribe and you can rant in the comment section. Http://elizamarch.blogspot.com We rock!
